From the urban atmosphere of an industrial complex or warehouse to the distinct nature of a historic church or mansion, Racine County has become an affordable, convenient and desirable wedding destination for couples and vendors alike.
With so many communities and such a diverse landscape for wedding accommodations, we took a balanced approach in highlighting what is so special about Racine County when it comes to the colossal world of weddings.
East of I-94, Hanni Gould inherited weddings from her family. Most recently, she’s taken The Covenant at Murray Mansion from conception to one of Racine’s busiest venues.
These two Racine County wedding experts give an inside perspective on why Racine County has evolved into a desirable destination for both couples and vendors.
There is quite a bit of activity west of I-94 and we’ve heard from our couples that is because of the awesome central proximity to the three major cities: Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago. From there, the unique vibe of the venues in Burlington from our industrial historic building to the beautiful barns to the more traditional facilities – there is a concentration in Burlington alone that attracts couples from all over Wisconsin and across state lines.
All of us are also LGBTQ+ friendly, so to be able to choose from multiple venues in one geographic area that are safe, that’s pretty wonderful. Bon Bon Belle, also LGBTQ+ friendly, features designers you might find in a bridal boutique downtown Chicago or Milwaukee, but we have something that most of them do not: a zero-judgment shop. We love all sizes, we do not pass judgment on what you budget for your gown, and above all else, we are committed to providing the No. 1 bridal experience in Wisconsin. Like other Racine County wedding industry providers, we work hard to make it worth the drive.
The Covenant at Murray Mansion has received a lot of regional recognition in the wedding industry, making it a destination location for many of our couples. Each year, approximately 50% of our clients are coming from either the Milwaukee or Chicago areas. Couples can get a unique, upscale space without the big city price. Regarding marketing and social media, we pull our inspiration from cities across the United States — instead of watching what the local market is doing, we strive to put ourselves on the same playing field as large urban areas.
In a word, value. From lower service fees and sales tax to free parking, venues and boutiques in this area offer as good or often a better experience at a much better price. Super savvy shoppers from the North Shore of Chicago and the suburbs of Milwaukee understand this and take advantage of that great proximity between Milwaukee, Chicago & Madison.
Even with our proximity to Milwaukee, couples planning their wedding in Racine County still get the personalized experience that you would receive in a small town. We become close with our couples through the planning process, and their wedding day is as equally important to us as it is to them. Going above and beyond to make sure their special day is perfect is what we strive for!
To borrow Mercantile Hall’s motto, it’s about #smalltownlove. We had a couple from Milwaukee get married at Mercantile Hall and while the groomsmen were waiting for the ceremony, they wandered outside to talk. Dave, owner of Itzin’s Shoes across the street, called them over and shined their shoes while they were waiting. He didn’t do it to make money. It was an act of pure generous spirit that fills these towns, and is one of the reasons why people choose to get married here.
That was just one of many beautiful moments, and those play out time and time again in our smaller communities. There is something special and unique about what we can offer. People feel at home even if they traveled from across the country to attend a wedding here.
In recent years, Racine County has become a major player in the wedding and events industry in SE Wisconsin. With new wedding venues opening each year and the styles being all across the board (barn, urban warehouse, historic church/mansion, repurposed bank, etc) there is something for every couple! And the personalized service and attention you receive from your vendors is something you don’t always get in the major cities.
