The Wisconsin city straddling Racine and Walworth counties welcomed two breweries in 2020. That’s a big deal for a city of slightly more than 10,000 residents.
It’s a bigger deal that it happened during a pandemic.
Bernard Peterson was a home brewer who took advantage of a move to open The Runaway Micropub and Nanobrewery at 109 E. Chestnut St., in the center of Burlington’s growing downtown.
Peterson, who co-owns MPC Property Management, opened The Runaway after moving his primary business across the street.
The storefront is now a cozy nanobrewery serving high-end snacks in the taproom and on the private patio in the back.
Tim and Claire Sullivan opened Low Daily in the building once used by the Burlington Standard Press. They moved from Portland to Burlington, where Tim grew up.
