From hands-on STEM workshops to future career paths, GEMS is opening doors for Racine County’s next generation of innovators.
More than 500 eighth-grade girls from Racine Unified School District (RUSD) recently visited the University of Wisconsin–Parkside for a day of hands-on STEM exploration designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and introduce future career paths.
Hosted by Girls Inc. of Southeast Wisconsin, the 13th annual GEMS Conference connects students with real-world opportunities through interactive workshops led by STEM professionals and educators, giving participants a closer look at careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.
Programs like GEMS help strengthen the local talent pipeline by introducing students to in-demand careers early, while initiatives like the Academies of Racine build on that momentum through personalized, career-focused learning. Together, they empower students to explore their interests, gain confidence, and take meaningful steps toward future careers—supporting a strong and growing workforce in Racine County.
