From Racine’s high school fields to the global stage, girls flag football is opening new opportunities for student-athletes in Racine County.
High school girls in Racine will soon have the opportunity to play flag football through a new NFL Girls Flag Football League, launched with support from NFL FLAG and Green Bay Packers legend Donald Driver. Beginning in Fall 2026, female students in grades 9–12 from Racine Unified, Kenosha Unified, and Whitefish Bay School Districts will be able to compete in the growing sport.
The launch reflects the growing momentum of girls flag football nationwide, with the sport set to debut at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The University of Wisconsin–Parkside will also introduce women’s flag football beginning in the 2026–27 academic year.
The Racine Unified School District (RUSD)—the fifth-largest district in Wisconsin—serves more than 16,000 students across 31 schools and focuses on preparing students to graduate career- and college-ready. Racine County also offers flexible education options, including open enrollment between districts, charter schools, and scholarship opportunities for private schools, along with a wide range of extracurricular activities and athletics.
